Accept God’s gifts
Imagine it is your birthday party. Your friends arrive, each with a gift. You take the gifts with a few oohs and aahs
about the pretty wrapping paper, turn them upside down, feel them ... and then
give them back – unopened. Can you
imagine their surprise? Totally
baffled.
I think that is how God must feel. Each time when he hands out gifts, there are
people who say, “Mmm, beautiful ... but no, it is too special. I cannot keep it.” Paul says it is God’s gift that he wants to
change our lives. It is God’s gift that
he wants to hand out his grace to us.
Long ago (before Christ came to this earh) people had to follow laws and
bring offerings to the temple to “satisfy” God.
Now, Paul says, this is no longer necessary. You don’t need to impress God. God’s grace (just another word for LOVE) is something he wants to share. It is his gift to you. All you
have to do is take it. And you don’t
even need to give it back.
Why would someone be so stupid to give back a
gift. Each time when you think you have
to do something to keep God satisfied ... then you give back his gift of grace.
And, if you would not do this to your friends, why do
it to God?
