God’s telephone line is never engaged
There is nothing that irritates me more than when I
make a phone call and a corpse-like voice (usually female) tells me, “We are
sorry, but at the moment all our lines are engaged ... you are caller number 54
... please do not hang up ... your call is important to us ...” And then a millisecond later, the same story
all over again, “All our lines are engaged ... Blah, blah, blah.”
Prayer is not a phone call to heaven. If it were, the line would have been engaged
at times. You could even call the wrong number
sometimes. And someone on the other side
could have irritated you with, “Please hold, there are 54 other people who
called before you.”
Prayer is also not those few seconds you close your
eyes after you have read your Bible.
Prayer is a way of life. It
begins the moment you become aware of God.
It can happen in the middle of break.
You may surf a wave and be aware of God.
You may be putting suntan lotion on your body and be amazed by all those
small hairs on your arms ... and be aware of God. This is prayer. But it is also seeing an accident scene on
television news ... and being aware of God.
To have a crisis in your life ... and being aware of God.
Prayer is an awareness. That God cares. That he looks after you. Prayer is believing that God will give you
what you need.
